After five years of dedicated effort, sodium-ion batteries are embarking on a new journey. On March 20, 2026, the 2026 (10th) Starting Point Sodium Battery Forum, Global Luban Awards Ceremony for Sodium Battery Technology Applications, and Global Sodium Battery Start-Stop Summit were grandly held at Jinling Hotel, Baoying, Yangzhou. The event was hosted by Qidian Sodium Battery and Qidian Research, with CNAE China Sodium Battery as the title sponsor. Centered on the theme “Sodium Batteries Rise Like a Dragon, Gathering in Yangzhou This March,” this year’s forum brought together top players from across the global sodium battery industry chain to discuss technological breakthroughs, industrial implementation, and the expansion of a trillion-yuan market, creating the most influential annual flagship event in China’s sodium battery industry.
At the Global Sodium Battery Start-Stop Summit, Dr. Ma Qianru, Director / Technical Director of Tongxing Haosheng, delivered a keynote speech titled “New Breakthroughs in Sodium Batteries: Progress in NFPP Cathode Materials and Sodium Supplementation Technology.”
The following is a transcript of the speech:
It is a great honor to introduce Tongxing Haosheng’s corporate development and core products to all of you. The company’s parent company is Tongxing Technology, a main-board listed company on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Its main businesses cover CCUS, new energy materials, flue gas treatment, and other sectors, and it is currently actively expanding into the sodium battery new energy track. Its subsidiary, Tongxing Haosheng, focuses on the R&D and production of NFPP cathode materials. In order to firmly establish its presence in the sodium battery industry, the company planned at the end of last year to build a 10,000-ton-scale production line in Yibin, Sichuan, and officially renamed Hefei Haosheng as Tongxing Haosheng (Yibin).
The company adheres to the “one core with two wings” development strategy, with environmental protection as the main business, and low-carbon technology and new energy as the two core sectors. Among them, the new energy segment focuses on sodium-ion battery materials. The company’s first general-purpose NFPP product features high specific capacity, low cost, and excellent processability. Its specific capacity can reach 110 mAh/g, and it demonstrates excellent rate performance. Even at a compaction density of 2.1, the material does not become brittle. In terms of electrochemical performance, the material has an operating voltage of about 3.0 V, with a capacity retention rate of 87% at 10C, while the voltage drop is only 0.2 V. After 2,500 cycles, the capacity retention rate remains above 93%, and the material also performs excellently under both high- and low-temperature conditions. In safety testing, the product successfully passed nail penetration, compression, and overcharge tests, and showed no smoke, fire, or explosion in 130°C hot-box and external short-circuit tests. A 50 Ah blade cell equipped with this material retained 80% of its capacity after 10,000 cycles. Under 2C and 5C charging, capacity retention rates were 98% and 96%, respectively. Under 3C, 5C, and 10C discharge, capacity retention rates were 94%, 90%, and 85%, respectively. Capacity retention after storage at both room temperature and high temperature exceeded 95%, and discharge performance remained excellent in low-temperature environments.
Based on this general-purpose product, the company has further developed a high-compaction NFPP, increasing the compaction density to 2.4 through a small-particle blending design, while achieving a specific capacity of 104 mAh/g. The company’s third core product is a NaCrO₂ sodium supplement additive, which features high electrochemical activity and can effectively improve the capacity utilization of full cells. Samples have already been sent to a number of companies in the industry and have received positive feedback, showing strong performance in both NFPP and layered oxide systems. The company has also launched a high-initial-efficiency S-NFPP product, which combines its self-developed low-cost organic sodium supplement additive with the material. By adopting an exclusive coating process, it effectively enhances battery cycling performance without significantly increasing material cost. In addition, the company has developed a high-voltage NMFPP to meet market demand, raising the operating voltage from 3.0–3.1 V to around 3.5 V. To address the gas generation problem of traditional organic sodium supplement additives, the company is also developing a gas-free sodium supplement additive. This product has a low risk voltage, a theoretical specific capacity of over 400 mAh/g, an actual measured capacity of about 330 mAh/g, produces no gas during decomposition, and is low in cost.
In terms of R&D strength, the company has appointed Professor Xu Gai of Southwest University as its chief scientist and has jointly carried out research on NFPP and sodium supplementation technologies, with multiple core patents in hand. From 2013 to 2020, the company completed its technology accumulation. After 2020, the technology became increasingly mature and stable. In 2023, it reached cooperation with Tongxing Technology and Southwest University and completed the transfer of two patents related to polyanionic materials. In early 2024, Haosheng New Energy was established. In the same year, a pilot production line was built and put into operation, with the products showing a high degree of maturity.
In terms of industrial layout, the company began cooperation with Hanshan County, Ma’anshan at the end of 2023, and subsequently planned a 10,000-ton-scale cathode material production line. Land has now been secured in Yibin, Sichuan, and construction of the production line is being pushed forward in full force. In the future, the company also plans to further establish a battery cell production line. Going forward, Tongxing Haosheng will continue to deepen its presence in the field of sodium battery cathode materials, take technological innovation as its core driver, continuously optimize product performance, and look forward to strengthening exchanges and cooperation with partners across the industry to jointly promote the high-quality development of the sodium battery sector.

This is the first one.
